Day 2: Avignon, Saint-Rémy, Les Beaux de Provence & Pont du Gard

Meet your guide at a designated meeting point and get ready to explore the historical center of Avignon. Enjoy explanations about this fabulous city with your english-speaking local and passionate guide. Climbing up to the top of the fortified medieval city walls to reach the “Rocher des Doms” garden, discover Avignon stretching in all its beauty along the Rhône river. Discover the rich historical past of Avignon where the papacy established in the early 14C. Enjoy skip-the-line access and follow your guide inside the Pope’s Palace (entrance ticket included), largest gothic-style Palace in Europe. In this maze of galleries, chambers and chapels, imagine its luxurious furnishing and sumptuous decoration from the medieval period. Benefit from genuine explanations and anecdotes thanks to your local guide. Walking on the cobbled streets to the Place de l’Horloge, find out about the secret of the painted windows. See the town hall topped with its clock tower, and the theatre. Enjoy the end of the tour in Avignon savoring a glass of Côtes du Rhône wine served in a local bar close to the Pope’s Palace. Then leave with your small group to Saint Remy de Provence for an incredible photo stop at the Antiques (Triumphal Arch and mausoleum) located in a field of olive trees, landscape painted several times by Van Gogh. Let everyone appreciate your photography skills with those impressive landcapes!
Next step is Les Baux de Provence, village located upon a rock 245 meters high, with its historical pedestrian center : the museum of santons, the Hôtel des Porcelets, beautiful house of the 16th century, the St Vincent Church, pretty romanesque building… Listen to your local guide and its passionate explanations about the Provence region. Then explore the famous and exceptional site of the Pont du Gard dated from the first century and classified by UNESCO. It is the most amazing and well preserved part of the Roman aqueduct which supplied water to Nîmes. After the tour, return to Avignon.

Day 4: Market & Villages in Luberon

Meet your guide at a designated meeting point and get ready to feel the unique atmosphere of Provence local market, fancy the special art of living. Experience the sensations of a market in Provence, follow your guide who has selected the best markets not-to-be-missed and the villages that are worth a detour. Spend time in the dry-stone built village Gordes located in the heart of the Vaucluse mountains. Enjoy its market on Tuesday only. Take a stroll in the charming rocky promontory. This village dominates the plain, from there admire the breathtaking view of the Luberon mountain. Next step will be the discovery of the village of Roussillon and its colorful houses (market on Thursday). Get a taste of Provençal life by strolling through one of the most beautiful Provençal markets in the Luberon: free time in Lourmarin (market on Friday), also famous for its Renaissance castle. Its worldwide reputation comes from the Pope Urban V in the 15th century. He tasted candied fruits while he was on a pilgrimage. Off to L’Isle sur la Sorgue: walk along the various canals and discover the antique shops. Did you know? There are more than 300 antics in l’Isle sur Sorgue, you may find many gems during your holidays in Provence. Then drive to Fontaine de Vaucluse: walk up to the cave from which the River Sorgue emerges. Admire the beautiful panorama from there. At the end of the tour return to Aix en Provence.

Day 5: Aix en Provence Walks

Discover Aix en Provence, the birthplace of the painter Paul Cezanne.
Aix-en-Provence is a dream for those who enjoy art and Provençal living. There’s the weekly market to explore, as well as the remnants of Paul Cézanne’s work. A walk down Cours Mirabeau with its stately 18th century mansions, cooled by plane trees in summer, is a must. Old town brings to life with its shops, monuments and fountains; while every day there’s sure to be another bustling market in the heart of the city. For fans of Cézanne, there’s his former studio – unchanged since he left it – where you can step into the past (entry fee not included).

Day 6: Verdon Canyon & Moustiers Sainte-Marie 

Explore the lavender fields of the Valensole plateau, and get ready to experience the spectacular Verdon Canyon and the Sainte Croix Lake.
Begin your journey by meeting your guide in Aix-en-Provence at 9am. Then, board the luxury minivan to Valensole plateau, a highly recommended hotspot during lavender season. See the wonders of this landscape and learn more about this “blue gold” from a local producer. Afterwards, head over to Moustiers Ste-Marie for free time and lunch (not included). Finally, end your Provence tour at Gorges of Verdon with stunning views of Sainte Croix Lake and the canyon. Feel free to take advantage of the beach or even take a swim!
