Leuven is one of the oldest towns in Belgium and is rich in history, culture, and art. The historical city center houses the oldest university in the Low Countries, the fifteenth-century town hall, and the Hogeschoolplein (with Pope's College and near the old cloth hall/university hall). The Great Beguinage (UNESCO World Heritage site), the massive libraries, and Oude Markt (the Longest Bar in Europe), Leuven, however, is also a modern city with an eye toward the future. Soak in the lively atmosphere of the Old Market while sipping a drink in one of the countless cushy cafés. Dodge the numerous students breathlessly biking between lessons or resting in one of the city's many green oases.
